Baby Greenhouse Birth Stories

Nick spent some of her labour in the pub!
At the pub, I was getting some quite strong pains and they certainly seemed to be getting regular. I managed a starter and main course, but asked Matt if he's mind missing pud so I could go home & get in the bath!! So, we gathered up our son and other belongings and came home. Matt put Jacob to bed and then joined me in bathroom with his new watch to time contractions.

Well, I woke last Monday and had started to get a pinky show, and some period pain, this continued until Wednesday and I figured it was going to be a slow process. Wednesday night I had a few irregular contractions and a few in the day too, ditto Thursday night, the pink show was still coming.

On Friday I felt achy and miserable and bad tempered too, as I really thought I'd be like that for days. We were going for a meal that night for our best friends son's Birthday. Jess phoned at lunchtime and offered to pick Jacob up at 4pm to take home to play with George (her son) and then we'd meet them at the Brewers Fair at 6pm. I planned to have a bath at that point, but my SIL arrived and despite heavy hints, would not go! I finally got in the bath at 5pm and was out and ready to leave at 5.45pm.

They were coming every 6 mons, and lasting a minute. Matt phoned my m&d to warn them, but I was still convinced all would stop very at any minute. Suddenly, they started to come 3mins apart, but were only lasting 30/45 secs. I phoned delivery and the said come in when you want to.

Matt was keen to go in, so we phoned for dad to come round, got me dressed and strapped the TENS on. I went in to look at Jacob and started to cry, I felt so guilty! Matt dragged me out and off we went.

Got to delivery at 10.30pm, but were not seen until 11.45pm. MW actually wrote an apology in my notes! I was convinced that we would be sent home, so was relieved at midnight when she said I was 3/4cm, but she could stretch me to 5!! She recommended walking or a bath, so I ran the taps again!

Matt had discovered that Highlander was on at this point and was sat ont he bed watching it, so I'm in the bath with strong contractions every 2 minutes with the strains of Queen drifting through to me!I got out at 1.20am and had a big show and lots of fresh blood. MW wants to discuss birthplan which is notes on the back of an envelope as I hadn't done it properly yet, but we never really get round to it! I have a bad contraction and ask for entinox which I get - I love that stuff She examines me at 1.30am and I am 8cm, so she breaks my waters. She tells me not to push, to suck the gas as you can't suck and push - I can!!

She lets me start pushing at 1.40am and announces she can see the head, I don't believe her as I pushed for 4hrs with Jacob, but carry on regardless! In my notes it says: 1.45am - Head advancing slowly. 1.52am: Spontaneous delivery of baby girl 4 mins later I delivered the placenta (assisted).

Her apgar scores were 9,10,10.

So, officially, 1.40mins 1st stage, 12 mins 2nd & 4 min 3rd!

Matt told me it was a girl, and I was so suprised, I was convinced we were having a boy! Was also shocked at the size of her (7lb 9oz), she seems tiny up to her brother at 8lb 13oz.

I was taken to the ward at 5.30am (got put in my own room), and managed to get out at 4pm.

Jacob has been a star and is besotted with her, he's been really good and it's lovely to see them together.

My m&d, IL's, brother & sil came to meet her Sat night and much wine was drunk!! Me, mum, dad & brother had a few private tears upstairs for Martin, I think he would have been chuffed to bits to have a niece. It's very hard to think he's not here to see her, I hope he knows.
