Had my doula Karen stay over on sunday night (from discovery channel programe) she was fab and really set my mind at ease and I slept really well..
Monday the big day.. arrived at the hospital for 7.45am and did a bit of filming then went up to the maternity ward where all my pre op checks were carried out again and notes gone through.. Baby was having a major moving fit in my tummy whilst being monitored and we caught it all on camera we were all in hysterics.. thought she was going to kick her way out there and then.
Anyway I was visited by all midwives who wanted to get onto film lol I felt like a film star and was treated very very well. Then the anethethtist and surgeon came to do thier bits.. 9.15am I was gowned and Jim was booted and gowned and we strolled down to the theatre.. Nerves started to kick in and karens expertese on support kicked in.
I was put on the table and the spinal was started... and as thought we had a big problem as they could not get the needle in I was in agony..I was petrified I would have to be generalled.. but 5 attempts later BINGO we had lift off. The relief was amazing.. no general. Phew. what a bizzare feeling that is having now feeling in your legs...
So the cutting started and within 5 mins tugging and pulling started.. words were being thrown from one side of the room to the other.. Caitlyn was wedged between my pelvic bones and had the umbilical cord wrapped right over her body .. so forceps were used to get her head out , jim was asked if he wanted to see her born he said "no ill stay behind here with you" I told him to go for it.. the look on his face when he peeked over.. LOL it was a picture I hope that they got that on camera... a scream was heard.... he was asked what it was and he said a girl and came back down to me and said we have our daughter she is so tiny.... and shed a tear or two.. bless. I was then showed her little face over the curtain covered in vermix and blood.. Too cute for words. Every one clapped and cheered and congratulated us.. I was then sewn up and we all went into recovery.
I had lost 800 ml of blood so we had to stay there for about 1 hour but this gave us time to bond with Caitlyn which I never did first time round with ds. It was fantastic.. I did a bit more of a feeling diary for the film crew,,,I know it sounds mad its the last thing you want to do, but it was actually great to let out all your emotions and feelings at that time..
She scored a perfect 10 on the apgar score card..
We all went back on the ward and was filmed with Kieran meeting his new sister.. and we were left alone to coo over our little dot..
All in all it was a very very calm and collected and a fantastic experience I would recommend to any one if they are put in an elective position.. I was told after that there is no way that caitlyn would have ever been able to be born naturally even if I had tryed for a vbac as she was well and truly wedged..
I was up walking within 6 hours of the op and out after on the weds afternoon.. Caitlyn has taken to the breast like a true star and is a little angel so happy . (at the moment ) I hope it stays that way.. I have boobs like lead balloons at the moment.
