SarahM hoped for a water birth with Joseph
First thing I say to the MW is that I'm desperate for a wee...so off I go....waters break (in the toilet fortunatly) and I suddenly get the urge to push (3.40am) - so still standing in coat, scarves, boots etc...quick puff on gas & air - have jeans whipped off, quick examination 'oh yes theres the head, start pushing'

Well after about 3 weeks of early labour (I do tend to drag these things out) I started getting fairly painful yet irregular contractions the evening before my due date, refused to acknowledge them and went to bed....

Woke up about 1am on my EDD thinking they were pretty painful so asked DH to put my TENS on and tried to get back to sleep...dozed between contractions (coming every 6 or 7 mins...) until 2.30 am when I decided to get up.....DH then insisted we go to hospital, I refused thinking it was too early....anyway he phoned my mum, made me ring the hospital....mum arrived, I was putting on make up/brushing teeth etc etc with DH nearly having kittens trying to leave.

So we leave about 3.10am, contractions every 5 mins and within 5 mins of leaving home contractions started coming every 3 mins - eek!! Worst part of all - batteries in the TENS then ran out!

We arrive at the hospital and as I try and walk through the car park the contractions were literally one on top of the other......arrive up at the delivery suite at 3.30am and first thing I say to the MW is that I'm desperate for a wee...so off I go....waters break (in the toilet fortunatly) and I suddenly get the urge to push (3.40am) - so still standing in coat, scarves, boots etc...quick puff on gas & air - have jeans whipped off, quick examination 'oh yes theres the head, start pushing'....40 mins later at 4.10am out popped our gorgeous boy - Joseph Luke, looking just like his big brother Tom, and weighing a very impressive 10lb 3oz, and 61cm long!!

No stitches needed, so lovely bath, tea and toast and we were all home by 9.30am (less than 6 hours in hospital from start to finish ) on my EDD.

Shame I didn't get my water birth though!
